Questions people ask
What happens when someone scans it?
Their camera offers your profile, and it opens in the Instagram app if they have it and in the browser if they do not. They can follow from there. Nothing to install and nothing to sign up for on your side either.
Do I have to paste the full link?
No. The handle on its own is enough, with or without the @. If you would rather point at one particular post or reel, paste that link instead and the code uses it exactly as given.
Is this an official Instagram code?
No, and it does not need to be. Instagram has its own nametag inside the app, which is handy phone to phone and useless on a printed menu — it is made for a screen and it expects the other person to already be in the app. This is an ordinary QR code that any camera reads, which is why it survives being printed.
Can I point it somewhere else later?
No. What the code says is inside the code itself rather than on a page we keep for you, which is why it needs no account, never expires and cannot stop working because we stopped. A new destination means a new code.
Will it still scan stuck to a window?
That is the part we are strict about. The code is laid out at a size that works on paper rather than one that merely looks right on a screen, and the colours are checked for contrast before they are offered — which is why some pretty gradients are not on the list. If what you have chosen will not print reliably, the generator says so rather than handing you a code that fails in the window.
